Small and medium-sized broadband providers often lack the capabilities to manage the complexities brought about by these changes, making them reliant on providers that can deliver comprehensive end-to-end solutions, encompassing systems, software, and services.

Client Challenge

The client is a leading US provider of equipment and platforms designed to support the delivery of broadband services, with a focus on small and medium-sized broadband operators.  

The client faced challenges with supporting diverse chipsets and systems, integrating new technologies, and validating software against strict QoS and telecom standards. Lengthy test cycles and lack of automation created bottlenecks, slowing software releases. They needed a partner to manage Voice, Data, and Video protocols, related systems, test environments, and release validation.

Approach

To address the challenges faced by the client, Encora implemented a comprehensive suite of services that include: 

  • Product Enhancement & Innovation: 
    • Enhanced development and delivery of new features and improvements across multiple device models, including support for IPv6, unique SIP-port registration, multiple IP hosts, CID suppression for Sweden, and country-specific customizations
    • Supported new chipsets and software DSPs, while ensuring full compliance with telecommunications standards and maintaining interoperability and backward compatibility
    • Implemented code modularization, such as the creation of reusable C++ libraries for call state handling, improving both software maintainability and reusability 
  • Application & Product Maintenance: Carried out thorough testing and ongoing maintenance for voice-related features and protocols across all ONT device models and softswitches, ensuring the stability and reliability of the product suite 
  • Continuous Integration (CI) & Continuous Deployment (CD): Utilized Bamboo/Bitbucket workflows to deliver new features, implement bug fixes, and manage new releases efficiently 
  • Test Automation:
    • Set up a complete internal lab, ensuring robust ONT and OLT software testing for reliable VoIP, IPTV, and data over Fiber 
    • Test activities covered the Network and Data Link layers, system, regression, and performance tests, Escaped Defect Analysis, and Device Management (TR-104, TR-069, SNMP), while network testing included Switch L2, Switch L3, and CIDR tests 
    • Developed ONT features virtualization for scalable OLT performance testing, optimizing test efficiency and reliability
    • Streamlined the regression test lifecycle, enhanced automated test coverage for voice features, and improved release quality with the new test lab
