Industry Context

The real estate industry is rapidly adopting new technologies to modernize the home search and buying process. Virtual tours and online listings have become common, allowing potential buyers to view properties without visiting in person. Despite of all the technological advancements, most digital resources predominantly cater to native English speakers. This presents challenges for international buyers and non-native English speakers, an important demographic as globalization and international mobility continue to rise. The need for more inclusive and accessible real estate solutions is becoming increasingly critical to serve a diverse and global market effectively.

Client Challenge

The client, a US real estate technology firm focused on optimizing realtors' public listings, recognized an opportunity to enhance their Multiple Listing Services (MLS) and virtual tours by making them more inclusive for a diverse audience. While their platform primarily catered to English speakers, they identified the growing need to serve non-native speakers, particularly immigrant homebuyers, an important market segment. With the vision to create a more accessible digital listing experience, the client sought a technology partner to develop a cutting-edge, multilingual platform. Their long-term goal was to offer an international real estate experience powered by AI-generated multilingual content, connecting agents globally.

Approach

AWS was selected as the platform of choice for several compelling reasons. The client’s specific business requirement was multilingual content generation, which included processing and generating text-to-speech audio tours by leveraging AI and ML. Given the features, scalability, self-managed services, and other solutions offered by AWS, it was the ideal partner for hosting and infrastructure needs.

 

To address the client’s business goals, we employed a combination of cloud services and generative AI: 

  • Cloud Native Development:  
    • Designed a cloud-native architecture leveraging AWS services which helped to generate closed captions for 20 languages, displayed alongside an audio player 
    • Hosted on a cloud platform, the system utilized a storage service for audio and track files, a text-to-speech conversion service, a multilingual text generation service, and a speech-to-text conversion service 
  • CX Transformation: Enhanced the user experience through showcase pages, allowing agents and buyers to view property details and listen to descriptions of features in their preferred language 
  • Code Synthesis, Refactoring & Documentation:  
    • Integrated modern AI and ML services, specifically AWS and OpenAI-based text-to-speech, speech-to-text, and language translation services, enabling users to access multilingual audio tours of properties in their preferred language 
    • Processed listing data through a serverless workflow to generate multilingual audio tours, presented via a responsive web app that agents can embed 
    • Triggered a function to process and store the generated audio, which is then served to external calls via Fetch requests

  • Enabled agents to share a multilingual experience with potential buyers by integrating multilingual audio tours. Agents, brokers, associations and MLS providers could reach a larger audience including those with hearing, visual, neurodiversity, and multilingual barriers  
  • Enhanced the user experience through showcase pages, allowing agents and buyers to view property details and listen to descriptions of features in their preferred language  
  • Enabled qualified buyers to communicate their interest in multiple properties to listing agents, providing details about themselves or their buyer's agent 
  • Allowed clients to reach a larger customer base, including some bilingual agents and market their listings in their preferred languages

  • Contributed to a significant increase in both the platform’s user base and property listings, allowing for wider reach, more options for buyers, and greater engagement with real estate partners and clients
